Myths Busted! - Opening Night
The only five kids left in Mr. Killigen’s Ancient Lit class meet in the auditorium, where a substitute is supposed to take over. Another boring class about things that don’t relate to them! But when the substitute enters, they perk up a bit. He looks like he just stepped off the set of a sword-and-sandals flick, and he introduces himself as Homer. Intrigued, the kids give him a chance as he retells the story of Prometheus, except that he updates the tale shamelessly to keep the cynical kids’ attention. Highly entertained, the kids encourage Homer to continue, and he next brings to life the story of seasons with Pluto and Persephone. Finally, he weaves the story of Orion and Artemis. Always true enough to the actual myth to be educational, the students never heard these myths quite like this but they finally understand. Myths are really timeless and touch on the hopes and fears of all people.
